Analyse Discord Bot Problems: Kage Troubleshooting

A Kage module does nothing? Troubleshooting checks permissions, channels, roles and plan, names the cause with a fix and, on request, evaluates your problem with AI.

Updated: 22 October 2026

You have set up a module and nothing happens: the welcome message does not appear, a role is not assigned, a ticket cannot be opened. Usually something small is behind it, a deleted channel, a missing permission or a role that sits above the bot. Kage's Troubleshooting finds such causes for you and tells you how to fix them.

In short: In the dashboard open Troubleshooting and press Start analysis. You get the findings with a fix, free and without AI. If you describe the problem and agree, Kage AI evaluates it as well. Kage changes nothing itself; you carry out the steps.

What is checked

The analysis looks at all active modules and reports, among other things:

  • Deleted or wrong channels: The chosen channel no longer exists or is the wrong kind.
  • Missing bot permissions: In the channel or server-wide permissions are missing, for example Send Messages or Manage Roles.
  • Roles Kage cannot assign: deleted, managed by an integration or above the Kage role in the role list.
  • Locked modules: A module is switched on but not part of your plan, so it does nothing.
  • Empty required settings: The module is on but a needed channel or role is missing.
  • No access to the server: Kage is not (any more) on the server.

If you choose a specific module you also learn whether it is switched off or has triggered nothing in the last 14 days.

Step by step

  1. Open Troubleshooting in the sidebar. On a red module you can also go directly via Open troubleshooting.
  2. Optionally describe the problem in your own words and choose the affected module.
  3. For the AI evaluation tick Evaluate with Kage AI and agree to the data transfer.
  4. Press Start analysis.
  5. Read the findings. Each names the cause and How to fix it, with a link to the module.
  6. Apply the fix and run the analysis again. The finding should disappear.

The AI evaluation

In addition to the findings you get a summary, possible causes with certainty (certain, likely, possible), steps and, if needed, up to two follow-up questions. Add your answers to the description and run it again. The evaluation is labelled as AI output and can be wrong; the findings of the check, in contrast, are reliable.

The AI sees no messages and no members, only findings, settings (with channel and role names) and counters. Still, do not enter data about other people or credentials in the description. An evaluation counts as one Kage AI answer against your server's monthly allowance.

Common cases

  • Messages do not arrive: Usually the bot lacks Send Messages or Embed Links in the channel. The finding names the channel and the missing permission.
  • Roles are not assigned: Almost always the role sits above the Kage role. Drag Kage up in the role list. More in the guide Bot not giving roles.
  • Module does nothing although it is on: Check the plan and the required fields. The analysis reports both.
  • After AI Setup roles are unusable: Here too usually the role order, see AI Setup.

Keeping an eye on it permanently

You start the analysis by hand. For Kage to warn you automatically as soon as a module gets a problem, set up Monitoring.

All findings, limits and error messages are in the wiki.
