How to Create a Discord XP Leaderboard

A leaderboard motivates when members can see their progress. With Kage you get it without extra setup as soon as the Levels & XP module is running.

Quick answer: Switch on Levels & XP (see How to add a leveling system). Members then use /level for their own standing and /leaderboard for the server's top 10.

The commands

• /level shows level, total XP and progress to the next level. Without input you see yourself, with input another member. For your own standing a daily checklist also appears showing what still earns XP today (for example the daily bonus).
• /leaderboard lists the ten members with the most XP, with place (the first three with a medal), name and level.
• /level-info explains to the member how to earn XP and ranks on this server. Only the person calling it sees the answer; it is available in German and English.

Info panel in a channel

In the dashboard you can have an explanation posted as an embed in a channel under Info panel channel. The embed updates automatically when you save settings. If you choose the same channel again, the existing message is adjusted instead of posting a second one.

Limits

• The leaderboard shows the top 10. A permanently updated leaderboard message or a longer list does not exist in Discord; complete numbers are in the dashboard export.
• The season reset in the dashboard offers a CSV backup of the leaderboard (Save leaderboard as CSV). The reset itself sets all XP to 0; the history is kept.
• Members who have left the server appear as a mention instead of a name.

Privacy and fairness

A public leaderboard shows activity. Mention it in your rules and use channel overrides and the role exclusion so team members and bot channels do not distort the result.

If it does not work

• "No data yet": no XP has been awarded yet, or the module is off.
• Wrong ranks: you set roles and thresholds under Ranks in the dashboard.

Works well with

You can do more with the leaderboard: hand out roles at certain levels or reward activity with the economy as well.

FAQ

Can I show the leaderboard permanently in a channel?

Not automatically updated. Members fetch it with /leaderboard.

Does the season reset affect the leaderboard?

Yes: after a reset everyone starts at 0, but the history stays in the XP log.
