How to Post RSS Feeds and Podcasts to Discord

Post new entries of an RSS or Atom feed and new podcast episodes to a Discord channel automatically, step by step.

Updated: 13 October 2026

Blog posts, patch notes, news or a new podcast episode: anything that offers a feed can be announced by Kage in a Discord channel automatically. For that there are the RSS and Podcast entries in Social Alerts.

Quick answer: In the dashboard under Social Alerts open RSS (for websites and feeds) or Podcast, paste the feed URL, choose a channel and click Add.

RSS or podcast: which to choose?

Technically both are the same, a feed with entries. They only differ in labelling and hints:

  • RSS: for blogs, news sites, software releases and anything else with an RSS or Atom feed.
  • Podcast: for the feed of a podcast. You get the address from your podcast host, often under "RSS feed" or "Feed URL".

Kage understands RSS 2.0 and Atom.

Setting it up

  1. Open Social Alerts › RSS or Podcast and use the Add creator form.
  2. Enter a display name, for example the name of the site or podcast. It appears through {creator} in the message.
  3. Paste the feed URL.
  4. Choose the channel where it is announced.
  5. Optional: a role that is pinged with every announcement (otherwise No mention).
  6. Adjust the message template. Available are {creator}, {title}, {url} and {platform}.
  7. Click Add.

Example template for a podcast: 🎙 New episode of {creator}: {title} {url}

Finding the feed URL

  • Many websites link their feed in the page header or under "RSS". Typical endings are /feed, /rss or .xml.
  • On GitHub there is an Atom feed for releases: https://github.com/OWNER/REPO/releases.atom.
  • Open the address in a browser. You should see a text list of recent entries, not a normal web page.

How the announcement behaves

  • Kage checks about every five minutes.
  • On the first check after adding, the current newest entry is only remembered, not announced.
  • Kage looks at the newest entry each time. If several entries appear between two checks, only the newest is announced.
  • The feed must be reachable publicly. Feeds behind a login do not work.

If it does not work

  • Nothing arrives. Does the address show a feed in the browser? Did a new entry appear after adding? An administrator can have all entries checked immediately with /social test.
  • The feed is not read. The address must deliver valid RSS or Atom and answer within a few seconds. Faulty feeds are skipped.
  • The bot does not post. Check the permissions in the target channel. Monitoring reports missing permissions.
  • The limit is reached. The number of entries per platform depends on the plan.

FAQ

Does this work for YouTube or Reddit too?

They have their own entries with fitting hints: YouTube and Reddit.

Can I put several feeds into one channel?

Yes, each feed is its own entry and several entries can use the same channel.
