Discord Automation: How to Automate Server Management
Automate recurring tasks on Discord: scheduled messages, event-triggered rules, custom commands, embeds and rules, and when to use which tool.
Updated: 13 October 2026
Every server has routine: answering the same questions, repeating notices, greeting newcomers, posting rules. Much of it can be automated. What matters is choosing the right kind of automation, because there are three very different ones.
Three kinds of automation
- Time-based: A message arrives at a fixed time or at fixed intervals, regardless of what happens on the server. Example: "Every Monday 18:00: weekly overview." That is what Auto Messages are for: How to schedule messages.
- Event-based: Something happens and Kage reacts: a member joins, writes a keyword, reacts with an emoji. That is what Automations are for: How to automate a server with rules.
- On request: A member asks and the bot answers with a fixed text. That is what Custom Commands are for: How to make custom commands.
What Discord offers natively
Discord can pin messages, schedule dates as events and react to keywords with AutoMod. Recurring, freely configurable messages and rules with conditions do not exist without a bot.
The building blocks with Kage Bot
- Custom commands for fixed answers (FAQ, links, rules).
- Auto Messages for anything recurring.
- Automations for IF/UNLESS/THEN rules.
- The embed builder for nicely designed messages, also updatable live.
- Sticky messages for notices that stay at the bottom.
- Server rules via
/rules.
Which tool for what?
- "I want something to appear every Monday" → Auto Message.
- "When someone joins, something should happen" → Automation (or Welcome, see welcome message).
- "When someone asks, the bot should answer" → Custom command.
- "I need a nice one-off announcement" → Embed builder.
Limits
Automation saves time but also makes mistakes visible faster. Test rules in a separate channel first. Automations are never triggered by bot messages or bot members, which prevents endless loops.
Which module is included in which plan is shown in the "Related Kage features" box below and in the pricing overview.
