At a glance

QuestionAnswer
Where do I find it?Server Settings, Audit Log.
Which permission do I need?View Audit Log.
How long do entries stay?About 45 days.
Can I filter?Yes, by person and by action.
Does it show message texts? No. It shows actions, for example deletion by moderators, but never the text.

Reading and filtering

Each entry names who did it, what was changed and when. With the filters at the top you narrow it down to a person or an action type, such as "Role updated" or "Member banned". This way you quickly find who changed a role or deleted a channel.

Limits

  • Entries disappear after about 45 days.
  • The content of messages is not stored, and messages deleted or edited by members themselves do not appear. For that you need a log of your own.
  • Whoever has the View Audit Log permission sees everything, so grant it carefully.

Frequently asked questions

Can I export the audit log? Discord offers no export for it. If you want to keep events permanently, you need a log of your own in a channel.

Why is an entry missing? Either it is older than about 45 days, or the action is not logged, for example a member deleting their own message.
