At a glance
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Where do I create a role? | Server Settings, Roles, Create Role. |
| How do I assign it? | Right-click a member, Roles, or in the role under Members. |
| Which permission do I need? | Manage Roles. |
| Is there a base role? | Yes, @everyone. Everyone has it automatically. |
| What is the most common trap? | Giving permissions too generously, especially Administrator. |
Create a role
- Open Server Settings, Roles and click Create Role.
- In the Display tab give it a name and a color.
- In the Permissions tab choose only the permissions the role really needs.
- Save the changes.
Assign a role
Open the member profile by right-click and choose the role. Or open the role in the server settings, switch to Members and add several people at once.
Good practice
- Give Administrator to very few people because it bypasses all channel rules.
- Create roles for tasks (moderator, event team), not for single people.
- Check the role order, otherwise a permission will not apply.
With Kage
Kage assigns roles automatically: on joining (auto roles), by clicking on a message (role panels) or for a limited time. How it works is in the guide Create, manage and automate roles. If Kage does not assign a role, Bot does not assign roles helps.
