AI Summaries: Channel Digests Daily or Weekly
How Kage's AI summaries sum up channels daily or weekly and post them in a target channel: setup, flow, limits on the amount of text, data privacy and troubleshooting.
Last checked for accuracy: 14 October 2026
The AI summaries answer "What did I miss?": Kage summarises the activity of selected channels daily or weekly by AI and posts the result as a card in a target channel.
What applies to all AI features (switch, daily budget, data privacy) is in AI features. Note there in particular: the texts of the messages are transmitted to the AI provider.
Requirements
- Access to the module: You sign in to the dashboard with Discord and need the Manage Server permission (or access granted for this module).
- AI features active under AI Controls, and an AI provider set up by the operator.
- Kage's permissions: in the watched channels View Channel and Read Message History, in the target channel Send Messages and Embed Links.
- Plan: The AI features are an add-on product, the plan notice at the top shows the status.
Setting up
- In the dashboard, open AI summaries.
- Under Watched channels, choose the channels to be summarised. Text channels count.
- Choose the Target channel where the summaries go.
- Choose the Rhythm: Daily or Weekly.
- Turn on AI summaries active and save. At least one watched channel and a target channel are needed.
How it works
Kage checks hourly whether a summary is due: one day or seven days after the last one. A new configuration is due immediately, so the first summary comes within an hour.
For each watched channel:
- Kage reads the messages since the last summary, oldest first. Kage skips bot messages and messages without text.
- If there were no new messages, there is no summary and no AI call for this channel.
- Otherwise the AI summarises the most important topics and events in bullet points in German and leaves out small talk without substance.
- Kage posts a card "Summary: #channel" in the target channel, with the number of messages since the last summary.
Each channel costs one call of the daily budget. If the budget does not suffice for all channels, Kage stops. The remaining channels of that pass are not caught up, their message window is lost.
Limits on the amount of text
- Per channel Kage reads at most 500 messages and at most about 8000 characters. If there were more, the AI only summarises the beginning of that period. On very active channels the summary can therefore be incomplete.
- For the very first summary there is no point in time "since the last one" yet. Kage then reads from the beginning of the channel and takes the first messages up to the limit. The first digest can therefore concern old messages.
- The card is at most 3900 characters long.
Settings at a glance
| Dashboard field | Meaning | Default |
|---|---|---|
| AI summaries active | Turns the feature on | off |
| Watched channels | Which channels are summarised | none |
| Target channel | Where the cards go | none |
| Rhythm | Daily or Weekly | Daily |
Each posted summary appears in the module's Logs tab.
Checking the result
- Set up: Choose an active channel as watched and a test channel as the target.
- Wait: At the latest after about an hour the first summary appears.
- Afterwards: The next day (or the next week) the next one comes, with the number of new messages.
Troubleshooting
No summary arrives
Check: Are the main switch and AI summaries active on? Are at least one watched channel and a target channel set? Were there new messages from members in the channel? Does the daily budget suffice? May Kage write in the target channel?
The first summary is outdated
See "Limits on the amount of text": the first pass reads from the beginning of the channel.
A very active channel is only partially summarised
Kage reads at most 500 messages or 8000 characters per pass.
A channel is missing from the summary
It had no new messages, is not a text channel, or the budget was already used up.
