Monitoring: Kage Reports Problems with Active Modules

How Kage's monitoring reports missing bot permissions, deleted channels and wrong roles: report channel, DMs, reminders, subscription notices, check interval and troubleshooting.

Last checked for accuracy: 20 October 2026

A channel gets deleted, a role slips above Kage's role, an admin removes permissions: the module breaks, and nobody notices until someone complains. The monitoring regularly checks your active modules and reports problems to a Discord channel and, if you want, by direct message.

For a short walkthrough, see the guide Getting problems reported automatically.

Requirements

  • Access to the module: You sign in to the dashboard with Discord and need the Manage Server permission (or access granted for this module).
  • A target: You need at least one report channel or a DM option. Without a target, the monitoring reports nothing.
  • Kage's permissions in the report channel: View Channel, Send Messages and Embed Links.
  • Plan: The plan notice at the top of this page shows which plan the monitoring needs.

Setting up

  1. Open the Monitoring module and turn on Monitoring active.
  2. Choose the Monitoring channel, ideally a private channel for admins only. With Create channel automatically, Kage creates the channel #kage-monitoring. It is invisible to @everyone, only Kage and administrators can see it, and Kage already has the permissions it needs there. You release further people in Discord through the channel permissions. Save afterwards.
  3. Optional: Also notify by DM, the Server owner and the Dashboard managers (everyone you added under Settings → Permissions).
  4. Under More options, choose whether Kage reports when a problem is fixed, whether it reminds after 24 hours and in which language the messages come.
  5. Save and click Send test message.

What is checked

The monitoring uses the same health check that marks modules red in the dashboard. It only checks active modules, namely their settings against the real Discord server. This covers, for example, Welcome, Tickets, Moderation, Verification, voice channels, Starboard, Stats channel, Role panels, Music, Forms and Giveaways. These kinds of problems are reported:

ProblemMeaning
No channel or role selectedThe module is active, but a required field is empty.
Channel no longer existsThe selected channel was deleted or Kage cannot see it.
Wrong channel typeThe module needs, for example, a voice channel.
Permissions missing in the channelKage may not do what the module needs there, such as sending messages.
Role no longer existsThe selected role was deleted.
Role cannot be assignedThe role belongs to an integration or a bot, for example booster or bot roles.
Role above Kage's roleDiscord only lets Kage assign roles below its highest role.
Server-wide permissions missingFor example Manage Roles or Manage Channels.
Subscription missing (💳)A module that is switched on is paused because the plan no longer covers it.

Each message says whether you fix the problem directly in Discord (🛠: permissions, role order) or in the dashboard (🖥: choose another channel or role). It contains step-by-step instructions and a link to the affected module. Kage groups messages for several modules together and splits them across several messages if needed.

The monitoring finds setup errors, not mistakes in the logic of your settings. A module that does nothing without any error message is a different case.

When Kage reports

The check runs in the background every minute and reads fresh permission and role data from Discord each time (not from a cache). A new problem and its fix are therefore usually reported within one to two minutes, without you having to click "Check again" in the dashboard. For each problem, Kage remembers whether it has already been reported:

  • New problem: Kage reports it right away.
  • Still open: If Remind after 24 hours is on, Kage reminds you once after 24 hours. For subscription notices the reminder is weekly, because an expired subscription lasts a long time.
  • Fixed: If Report when a problem is fixed is on, Kage reports it as fixed. This only applies to problems Kage had reported before.
  • Appears again: A fixed problem that comes back is reported like a new one.
  • Discord unreachable: Then Kage changes nothing. That way there is neither a false alarm nor a false "fixed".
  • Not deliverable: If delivery fails (channel locked, DMs off), the problem stays marked "not delivered yet", and Kage tries again on the next run. It is enough for one recipient to receive the message.

Direct messages

With Server owner, the server's owner gets the same message as a DM. With Dashboard managers, everyone you added under Permissions gets it. If a person is only added for certain modules, they only receive messages about those modules. DMs only work if the person allows direct messages from server members.

Language

With Automatic, Kage follows the server language in Discord: German for a German server, English otherwise. You can also fix German or English.

When the subscription expires

If a Premium or Enterprise subscription or the trial expires, the modules it unlocked are paused: commands and buttons only reply with a notice, automatic features rest, and the settings stay saved. The monitoring reports every paused module that is switched on with the notice "renew the subscription" (💳).

If the monitoring itself is no longer part of the plan, it runs in emergency mode: it then no longer checks all modules and only reports the subscription notices.

Currently open problems

At the bottom of the page, Kage lists all currently open problems: the module, the message, whether it has been delivered, whether you fix it in Discord or in the dashboard, and an Open module link.

Checking the result

  1. Test: Click Send test message. The page shows "Channel: sent" and the number of sent or undeliverable DMs. The channel receives "Kage Monitoring is set up".
  2. Real case: Remove Send Messages from Kage in a module channel. After a few minutes a message appears.
  3. Fixed: Give the permission back. Shortly afterwards Kage reports "fixed".

Troubleshooting

The test message does not arrive

Check Kage's permissions in the report channel: View Channel, Send Messages, Embed Links. The test uses the last saved settings, so save first.

The test reports undeliverable DMs

The person does not allow direct messages from server members.

Very many messages arrive

An active module without a channel or role keeps reporting until it is fully set up. Turn off modules you do not use.

"Please choose a channel first or turn on a DM option and save"

The test needs a saved target.

The automatically created channel is not used

After Create channel automatically you still have to save.

Nothing is reported, but a module does nothing

The monitoring only knows setup errors. For role problems, the guide Bot doesn't assign roles helps.
