Kage Music Library: Play Rights-Cleared Tracks

How the Kage Music Library works: a catalog of rights-cleared tracks maintained by Kage, search and playback by command, genre filter, attribution and troubleshooting.

Last checked for accuracy: 14 October 2026

The Kage Music Library is a second music source next to the radio stations. It contains individual tracks whose rights the Kage team has checked before they were released. Kage scrapes neither YouTube nor Spotify for this. Playback runs through the same player as Kage Music, with the same queue, the same panel and the same volume.

For a short walkthrough, see the guide Setting up a music bot.

Who maintains the library?

Only the Kage team adds, checks and releases tracks. Server admins cannot add or change tracks. You only decide whether the library is active on your server and which genres are playable.

The catalog grows over time. As long as no tracks are released yet, search stays empty, and the dashboard shows "No tracks in the library yet".

How a track gets into the library

A track has a status. The bot only sees tracks with the status approved. All other states are invisible to it.

StatusMeaning
Pending / in reviewCreated, but not released yet
ApprovedMay be searched and played
RejectedThe rights are not sufficient
SuspendedWithdrawn afterwards
ExpiredThe licence has ended

Before release, Kage checks that all of this information is present:

  • The licence allows commercial use, streaming through Discord and use in the Kage service.
  • The rights to the composition and to the recording are confirmed.
  • The licence is valid worldwide, because a voice channel cannot separate listeners by country.
  • A licence document and the rights holder are on file.
  • If the licence requires attribution, the text for it is entered.

This is a completeness check of the entered information and not legal advice.

Licence end: If a track has an expiry date, Kage sets it to "expired" automatically. The check runs every 6 hours. An expired or suspended track can no longer be searched or started. A track that is already playing or in the queue is not cut off.

Requirements

  • Access to the module: You sign in to the dashboard with Discord and need the Manage Server permission (or access granted for this module).
  • Kage Music enabled: The library belongs to the Kage Music module and uses its settings, such as the DJ role.
  • Plan: The library is a module of its own. The plan notice at the top of this page shows which plan it needs. Without a suitable plan, Kage reports that the module is paused.
  • Kage's permissions and voice channel: as with Kage Music.

Settings

In the dashboard under Kage Music you will find the Kage Music Library card:

FieldMeaningDefault
Library activeEnables library search and playbackon
Genre filterOnly tracks of these genres are playable. Nothing selected = all genresall

The genre filter only shows genres for which released tracks exist. If a filter is set, tracks without a genre drop out. The filter applies to search, autocomplete and playback.

Searching and playing tracks

Search: /music library-search query:<keyword> shows up to 10 results with artist, title, genre and duration. It searches title and artist. Any member may use it.

Play: /music library-play track:<title or artist>. While you type, Discord suggests up to 15 tracks. Pick one. If you enter free text without picking, Kage takes the first hit. You must be in a voice channel and be one of the controllers, that is, have the DJ role or Manage Server if a DJ role is set.

If something is already playing, Kage adds the track to the queue. If the licence requires attribution, Kage appends the attribution text to the reply. In German Discord clients the parameters are called anfrage and titel.

Checking the result

  1. Enable: Turn on Kage Music enabled and Library active.
  2. Search: Enter /music library-search with a keyword. Results appear as soon as released tracks exist.
  3. Play: In the voice channel, enter /music library-play and pick a track. It plays.

Troubleshooting

"No matching tracks found"

There is no released track for your keyword. Try a shorter word. Also check the genre filter, because tracks of other genres are hidden then.

"The Kage Music Library is disabled on this server"

In the dashboard under Kage Music, turn on the Kage Music Library card (Library active) and save.

"This track belongs to the genre …, which isn't allowed on this server"

The genre filter does not allow this genre. Select the genre in the filter or remove the filter.

"The Kage Music Library isn't available right now"

The module could not be loaded. Try again later.

Kage says the module is paused

Your plan does not include the library or has expired. Check the plan in the dashboard.

A track can no longer be started

The Kage team suspended it, or its licence has expired.

Everything else, such as missing voice permissions, behaves as in Kage Music.
