Social Alerts: Announce New Content and Livestreams
How Kage's social alerts announce new videos, posts and livestreams in a Discord channel: setup, commands, message template, check interval, limits and troubleshooting.
Last checked for accuracy: 20 October 2026
With social alerts, Kage announces new content from your creators and feeds in a Discord channel: a new YouTube video, a podcast episode, a Bluesky post or the start of a livestream on Twitch or Kick. You add creators, choose a channel and optionally a role, and Kage checks in the background.
What you have to enter as a source for each platform is in Platforms and sources. Livestreams without any entry are detected by the Streamer detection.
Requirements
- Access to the module: You sign in to the dashboard with Discord and need the Manage Server permission (or access granted for this module). The
/socialcommands require Manage Server. - Kage's permissions in the announcement channel: View Channel and Send Messages. If a role is to be mentioned, it must be mentionable or Kage needs Mention @everyone, @here and All Roles.
- Plan: Each platform is a module of its own. The plan notice at the top of this page shows which plan they need.
Setting up
In the dashboard under Social Alerts: The overview shows each platform with its number of creators. Open a platform and use the Add creator form:
- Enter the source, for example a username or a feed URL (see Platforms and sources).
- For YouTube, RSS and Podcast you also enter a Display name. For Twitch, Kick, Bluesky and Reddit, Kage takes it from the source.
- Choose the channel where announcements go.
- Optional: a role that is mentioned on every announcement (otherwise "No mention").
- Adjust the Message template.
- Click Add.
By command:
| Command | Effect |
|---|---|
/social add | Adds a creator: platform, source, name, channel and optionally a role |
/social list | Shows up to 25 creators with channel, status and time of the last check |
/social remove | Removes a creator by its number from the list |
/social test | Checks all creators on this server immediately |
In German Discord clients the subcommands are hinzufuegen, liste, entfernen and testen.
The command creates the creator with the default text. You change the template only in the dashboard.
When Kage announces
- Kage checks about every five minutes and waits briefly between two creators. With many creators, a pass can therefore take a little longer.
- On each check Kage only sees the newest entry. If several new posts appear between two checks, Kage only announces the newest.
- The first pass after adding announces nothing. Kage only remembers the current entry. If a stream is already running when you add the creator, that stream stays unannounced.
- One post, one announcement. For livestreams: the same running stream triggers once, a new stream of the same channel triggers again.
- With
/social test, an administrator checks right away. If there is something new, it is announced then. - If Kage may not write or the channel no longer exists, that announcement is lost. Kage does not catch up, it waits for the next new entry.
- If a platform's plan expires, that platform pauses. The creators stay saved.
Tracked links and creator ranking
Every creator has a Tracked link section in their card. There you create a short link with a click counter for a target, copy it and see the clicks. To create a short link for a creator:
- Open Social Alerts in the dashboard and the creator's platform page.
- In the creator's card under Tracked link, enter the target address and create the link.
- Copy the short link and share it.
Every click counts for the creator. Only the time is stored, no person and no IP address. The creator ranking, meaning which creator gets the most clicks, is shown in the Kage Control Center desktop app under Social & Creators. If you like, an embed template with the live data source "Top 5 creators by clicks" shows the ranking in a Discord message (see Embeds). In the embed editor you also pick the short links per button.
Message template
The announcement is a normal message, optionally preceded by a role mention. Placeholders:
| Placeholder | Result |
|---|---|
{creator} | Display name of the creator |
{title} | Title of the video, post, stream or episode |
{url} | Link to the content, to the channel for livestreams |
{platform} | Name of the platform, such as "Youtube" or "Rss" |
Unknown placeholders stay as they are. The finished message is at most 2000 characters long. The dashboard suggests 🔔 {creator} posted something new! {url} (in the German dashboard the German wording). Without a template of your own, for example with commands, Kage sends 🔔 **{creator}** hat etwas Neues veröffentlicht: {title} followed by the link.
Limits
| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Creators per platform and server in the dashboard | Premium 10, Enterprise 50 |
| The same source twice on the same platform | not possible |
| Template | 1000 characters |
The dashboard checks the limit when adding. In the dashboard you can change a registered creator with Edit (source, channel, role mention, template) or Remove it. There is no pausing. If you change the source, Kage starts watching afresh and does not announce older posts of the new source afterwards.
Settings at a glance
| Dashboard field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Source (username or feed URL) | What Kage watches |
| Display name | By hand only for YouTube, RSS and Podcast |
| Channel | Where Kage announces |
| Role | Mentioned on every announcement |
| Message template | Text with placeholders |
Each announcement appears in the Logs tab of the respective platform.
Checking the result
- Add: Add a creator who posts often, for example an RSS feed.
- Wait: The first pass announces nothing. Wait until a new entry appears, or run
/social test. - Announcement: The channel receives the message with title and link.
Troubleshooting
No announcement arrives
Check the channel and Kage's permissions in the target channel. If the creator was only added when the post or stream was already running, it stays unannounced. Also check the source: a feed URL must deliver a feed in the browser.
An announcement is missing although the creator is active
Several posts appeared in between, so Kage only announces the newest. Or Kage was not allowed to write at that moment, and it is not caught up later.
"This creator/feed is already registered for this platform"
The same source already exists on this platform. Remove the old entry or use the list.
The limit is reached
The number of creators per platform depends on the plan. Remove entries you no longer need.
The role is not mentioned
The role is not mentionable, and Kage does not have Mention @everyone, @here and All Roles.
"Coming soon" appears
TikTok, Instagram and X are not connected yet, see Platforms and sources.
