Live Announcements: Members Announce Themselves with /live
How /live works: members announce themselves when they are live or have published something new, for any platform. Setup, cooldown, messages and limits.
Last checked for accuracy: 14 October 2026
With the Live Announcements module, members announce themselves: "I'm live right now" or "I just published something new". The /live command posts an embed in a channel you choose. It works for any platform, even where Kage cannot detect anything automatically.
How this module differs from automatic detection
| Module | Who triggers the message? | What does Kage check? |
|---|---|---|
Live Announcements (/live) | the member, with a command | nothing, the platform is just text |
| Streamer Detection | Kage, through the Discord status "Streaming" | the Twitch and YouTube status |
| Social Alerts | Kage, by polling the platform | new posts and streams of the entered channels |
Use /live when a platform offers no detection, such as X, TikTok or Instagram, or when members should decide themselves when to report something.
Setting up
- In the dashboard, open Live Announcements and switch the module on.
- Choose the announcement channel. Without a channel,
/livereplies that the feature is not set up. - Optionally choose a role that is mentioned with every announcement, for example a role for viewers who want to be notified.
- Set the cooldown per member in minutes. The default is 60, the smallest value 1.
- Save. The bot needs permission to write and to embed in the channel.
The /live command
Every member may use /live. There is no permission check.
| Parameter | Meaning |
|---|---|
platform | Twitch, YouTube, Kick, X (Twitter), TikTok, Instagram, Bluesky or Other |
title | What it is about, for example the stream title. Kage shows up to 1000 characters. |
link | Optional. Link to the stream or post, up to 500 characters. |
Kage then posts an embed with the title, the platform, the link and the person's profile picture. For Twitch, YouTube and Kick the heading reads "🔴 Name is live now!", for all other platforms "🔔 Name published something new!". The language of the embed follows the server language. The reply to the person follows their Discord language and is visible only to them.
Cooldown
The cooldown applies per member and server. The first announcement always goes through right away. After that the person has to wait as long as you set, and otherwise gets a message saying how many minutes are left. The cooldown starts as soon as Kage accepts the announcement, before it is sent.
Settings at a glance
| Setting | Default | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Live announcements active | off | Switches the module on. |
| Announcement channel | none | Target of the announcements. Required. |
| Role mention | none | Mentioned with every announcement. |
| Cooldown per member | 60 minutes | Minimum gap between two announcements by the same person. |
Checking the result
- Set up: Switch the module on and choose a channel.
- Announce: Enter
/live platform:Twitch title:Test. The reply "Announced in #channel" appears and the embed is in the channel. - Cooldown: Enter the command again right away. Kage tells you how long you still have to wait.
- Log: In the Logs tab of the module you find the entry "announced".
Troubleshooting
"This feature isn't set up on this server yet"
The module is off, or no channel is chosen. Check both in the dashboard.
"The configured announcement channel no longer exists"
The channel was deleted. Choose a new one in the dashboard.
"I'm not allowed to write in the announcement channel"
The bot lacks permission to write or to embed in the channel. In this case the person's cooldown still runs.
The /live command does not appear
The module is switched off on the server. Kage hides the commands of switched-off modules. Switch the module on and wait a moment until Discord has updated the commands.
"Please wait … minutes"
The cooldown is still running. An admin can shorten it in the dashboard.
Limits
- Kage does not check whether someone is really live, and checks neither the platform nor the link. Any member can post any text and links. If you do not want that, switch the module off or use Streamer Detection.
- The platform is only a choice from a fixed list and is not queried.
- There is no role or channel restriction for the command itself.
