Managing Levels and XP: Commands, Multipliers and Season Reset

Admin commands for XP, multipliers per role, channel and time window, the explainer embed and the season reset in the dashboard – with exact flows and troubleshooting.

Last checked for accuracy: 20 October 2026

This page describes the tools you use to steer the level system while it is running: granting or deducting XP by hand, speeding up XP with multipliers, posting an explainer embed, and resetting all XP at the end of a season. The sources of XP are in Levels and XP: Sources, Limits and Anti-Farming; ranks and levels are in Ranks, Levels and Rewards.

Requirements

  • Module on: "Rank/XP system active" must be on. The commands add, remove, event and recalculate-roles otherwise reply that the system is not active.
  • Permission for the admin commands: The commands in the /rank-xp group are by default visible and usable only for members with the Manage Server permission. You can adjust this in Discord under *Server Settings → Integrations*.
  • Season reset: Only real server admins (Discord permission Manage Server) may run it; individually granted module access is not enough.

Commands for members

CommandEffect
/levelLevel, total XP and progress, optionally for another member. For yourself, also the daily checklist.
/leaderboard (German /rangliste)The server's top 10 with place, name and level.
/level-infoPrivately explains (visible only to you) how to earn XP and ranks on this server. Optionally you choose English or German; otherwise your Discord language applies.

Admin commands

Only you see the replies (ephemeral). Grants run through the same processing as normal XP, so rank and level roles, rewards and messages all apply as usual.

CommandParametersEffect
/rank-xp addMember, amount (1 to 1,000,000), reason (optional)Grants XP by hand. The reason appears in the history.
/rank-xp removeMember, amount (1 to 1,000,000), reason (optional)Deducts XP. The rank role is adjusted if needed.
/rank-xp eventMember, typeGrants the amount of an entry from the event XP catalog (suggestion list while typing).
/rank-xp historyMemberShows the last 15 grants with source, reason, granting person and time.
/rank-xp recalculate-rolesMemberSets the rank role to match the current XP total.
/rank-xp resetMemberResets XP, level, rank cache and daily-bonus streak to 0, after confirmation.

For admin grants:

  • They are not multiplied and are not blocked by exclusion roles.
  • add and remove are stored in the history with source "Admin", event with "Event".
  • You maintain the event XP offering in the dashboard in the Event XP catalog (key, display name, amount). The presets are Event participation 25, Special event 50 and Event won 100.

Resetting one member

/rank-xp reset asks for confirmation first. Only the person who ran the command can confirm with the button, and the request expires after 60 seconds. The reset:

  • sets total XP, all per-source totals, level, rank cache and the daily-bonus streak to 0,
  • writes the old total into the history as an admin entry,
  • does not touch Discord roles or the newcomer status. Adjust roles if needed with /rank-xp recalculate-roles or remove them by hand.

/rank-xp recalculate-roles goes purely by XP and does not check newcomer conditions. At 0 XP, the Member tier applies with the default thresholds.

Multipliers

With multipliers you reward selected roles, channels or periods with more XP, or soft-block them with a factor of 0. They only apply to the passive sources: messages, reactions and voice. Daily bonus, server boost, events and admin grants are never multiplied.

Order of calculation

Kage determines the amount in this order:

  1. Base value: the rolled amount between minimum and maximum, or the fixed amount of a channel override.
  2. Role multiplier: If more than one of the member's roles matches, the highest wins. The factors are not added up.
  3. Channel multiplier: The factor of the channel override (for voice, of the voice channel).
  4. Time windows: All currently active windows, which may overlap, are all multiplied.
  5. Global permanent multiplier: always applies, default 1.

The factors are multiplied and the amount is then rounded. If the result is 0, no XP is granted. Only after that does the daily cap apply: it counts the amount after multiplication.

Settings

Role multipliersRole and factor, the same role only once
Channel overridesper channel: fixed message XP, fixed reaction XP, voice on or off, "No XP at all", multiplier (for example 2.0)
Multiplier windowsName, start, end, factor, optional weekdays
Global permanent multiplierone factor for everything, default 1

Important notes on time windows:

  • Start and end are required, and the times are in UTC.
  • Optionally you restrict a window to weekdays (Monday to Sunday, also in UTC). With no selection it applies every day in the period.
  • /level-info no longer shows expired windows and shows upcoming ones with their period.

/level-info shows members the active bonuses as long as they are greater than 1. Exclusions with factor 0 are no bonus for members and are not shown.

The explainer embed

In the dashboard, Post explainer embed posts a ready-made message into a channel of your choice that explains, live from your settings, how and how much XP is earned with what: messages, reactions, voice, daily bonus, boost, events, bonuses and ranks.

  1. Under Info panel channel, pick the target channel and click Post now.
  2. Kage stores the message. As soon as you save the settings, Kage updates the message automatically. You do not need to post again.
  3. If you pick the same channel again, the existing message is updated instead of posting a second one. If it was deleted, you post it again here.

Kage needs Send Messages and Embed Links in the channel.

Season reset

The season reset sets everyone's XP to 0, like a restart after a season. You find it in the dashboard under Level & XP in the Season reset section.

Flow

  1. Preview: The dashboard shows how many members have XP and how much XP that is in total.
  2. Back up (recommended): Save leaderboard as CSV downloads all members with XP as a file, with rank, level, per-source totals and the names of the first 200 places.
  3. Rank roles (optional): With Reset all members' rank roles to you choose a tier. Anyone who currently holds a rank role keeps only that tier's role in Discord afterwards; all other rank roles are removed. If the chosen tier has no role, roles are only removed. Without this option, everyone keeps their existing rank roles.
  4. Confirm: Type RESET and start the reset.

What is reset and what stays

Is resetStays
Total XP and XP per sourceThe module's configuration
Level and rank cacheMessage counters (for statistics)
Daily-bonus streakNewcomer status
XP history (each person's old total is logged as an admin entry "Season-Reset")

If you choose the Newcomer tier for the rank roles, the newcomer phase starts over for everyone: the newcomer status and progress are then reset as well.

The role sync runs in the background and respects Discord's rate limits, so it can take a while on large servers. The result appears in the Logs tab ("Season-Reset: … rank role changes for … members").

Checking the result

  1. Grant: /rank-xp history shows the entry with source "Admin" or "Event" and your reason.
  2. Status: /level for the affected member.
  3. Multiplier: Check in /level-info that the bonus appears with the expected period.
  4. Season reset: Afterwards, the preview in the dashboard shows 0 members with XP, and the Logs tab contains the reset.

Troubleshooting

The /rank-xp commands are not visible

You need the Manage Server permission. Also check under *Server Settings → Integrations* whether the command has been restricted for your role, and that Kage is invited to the server.

The command says the system is not active

"Rank/XP system active" is off or not saved.

An event type does not appear in the list

It is not in the Event XP catalog or was created without a key. The dashboard requires a key and a name for every entry and rejects duplicate keys. The list shows at most 25 entries.

The multiplier has no effect

Check that the source is passive (message, reaction, voice). For time windows, check start, end and weekdays, since everything is in UTC. With several roles the highest wins; nothing is added. A value below 1 reduces XP, and a channel override with "No XP at all" blocks the channel entirely.

Members get less XP than expected

The daily cap limits the amount after multiplication. Also check cooldown, minimum length and exclusions in Levels and XP: Sources, Limits and Anti-Farming.

The explainer embed does not update

The message was deleted, or Kage no longer has permissions in the channel. Post it again in the dashboard.

Roles do not change during the season reset

The option Reset all members' rank roles to was not selected, or Kage may not change the roles because of the role order. The entry in the Logs tab also counts errors.
