Sticky Messages: A Fixed Message Stays at the End of a Channel
How Kage's sticky messages keep a fixed text at the bottom of a channel: threshold, reposting, limits, behavior after a restart and troubleshooting.
Last checked for accuracy: 14 October 2026
A sticky message keeps a fixed text at the bottom of a channel, for example channel rules or a help notice. As soon as enough new messages come in between, Kage deletes the old sticky message and posts it again, so that it is at the very bottom once more, instead of just editing it.
For a short walkthrough, see the guide Setting up sticky messages.
Requirements
- Access to the module: You sign in to the dashboard with Discord and need the Manage Server permission (or access granted for this module).
- Kage's permissions in the channel: Send Messages, Read Message History and, to remove the old message, being allowed to delete its own message (Kage can always delete its own messages).
- Plan: The plan notice at the top of this page shows which plan the module needs. If the plan lapses, Kage pauses the sticky messages.
How it works
Per channel there is at most one sticky message with a text and a threshold.
- Someone writes a message in the channel. Kage ignores bots.
- Kage counts the messages since the last repost per channel.
- When the counter reaches the threshold (default 5, adjustable from 1 to 100), Kage deletes the previous sticky message, if there is one.
- Kage posts the text again and remembers the message.
- The counter starts at 0. The repost appears in the module's Logs tab.
Important:
- The first post only happens once the threshold is reached, not immediately on saving. So after creating it, write a few messages, or set the threshold to 1.
- The counter lives only in memory and starts at 0 after a bot restart. The sticky message then stays a bit longer before being reposted. No harm is done.
- A sticky message does not renew itself if nobody writes.
- If you delete the message by hand, Kage posts a new one when the threshold is reached.
Settings at a glance
| Dashboard field | Meaning | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Sticky Messages enabled | Turns the module on | off |
| Channel | The sticky message's channel, only one per channel | – |
| Text | Content, up to 2,000 characters | – |
| Threshold | After how many new messages it is reposted, 1 to 100 | 5 |
You can set up to 25 channels. The sticky message has no slash commands.
Checking the result
- Create: In a test channel, create a sticky message with threshold 2 and save.
- Write: Write 2 messages. The sticky message appears at the very bottom.
- Keep writing: After 2 more messages, Kage deletes it and posts it again.
- Logs tab: The repost is noted there.
Troubleshooting
The sticky message does not appear
Check that the module and the entry are active, that the channel is chosen, that the threshold was reached and that Kage may write there. Write at least as many messages as the threshold.
The message jumps too often
Increase the threshold. In very active channels, 10 to 20 is sensible.
A channel cannot be added twice
Only one sticky message per channel is possible. Change the existing entry.
