Set Up Private Areas for Specific Roles
How to build channels that only certain roles can see, for example for team, moderation or clan: with the Setup Assistant, with role panels and verification, or by hand in Discord.

A private area is a channel or category that only certain roles can see, for example a team channel, a moderation area or a clan meeting place. There are three ways to build one.
At a glance
| Way | Good for | Effort |
|---|---|---|
| Setup Assistant | A whole server with roles and visibility at once | Low, with preview |
| Role panel or verification | Members pick roles themselves or are unlocked first | Low |
| By hand in Discord | A single channel | Medium |
With the Setup Assistant
In the Server structure step you choose a role template (Gaming, Community, Business or Clan). For each channel in the preview you set the visibility, for example public, members only, VIP, team, moderation or administration. You can add the Team, Moderation and Administration areas individually. The assistant shows everything in a preview before creating it and never creates anything twice.
Important: the assistant never gives the Administrator permission. For the administration area it only creates the channels; you assign the permissions for it yourself in Discord afterwards. If Kage cannot create a role because it would need permissions Kage does not have itself, the assistant reports it and you add the role by hand (see Which permissions does Kage need?).
With role panels and verification
If you want members to pick a role themselves and get access to an area that way, use role panels. If new members should confirm before they see anything, use verification. In both cases the assigned role makes the channels visible. You set the channel permissions in Discord so that only this role may see the channel.
By hand in Discord
- Create the role that should see the area, or pick an existing one.
- Open the settings of the channel or category, section Permissions.
- Deny View Channel for @everyone.
- Add the role and allow it View Channel and, if needed, Send Messages.
- Also allow Kage access if a module should send messages there.
If you set the rules on a category, the channels inside inherit them as long as they are synced. The basics are explained in Understanding Discord permissions.
Checking that it works
Ask one member with the role and one member without it for quick feedback. Whoever does not have the role must not see the channel. Also check that no member keeps access through a second role.
