Announcements: Send a Message Right Away from the Dashboard
How Kage's announcements work: send a message with a title, placeholders and an optional embed to a channel right away, with preview, limits, log and troubleshooting.
Last checked for accuracy: 14 October 2026
With announcements you send a message to a channel of your choice right away from the dashboard, for example a notice about maintenance. Each announcement is a single send: Kage does not store the text and remembers nothing for later.
For lasting content that you want to edit later, there is the Community Board. You send recurring messages with Auto messages.
Requirements
- Access: You sign in to the dashboard with Discord and need access to the server.
- Kage's permissions in the target channel: View Channel and Send Messages, and for an embed also Embed Links.
- No plan needed: Announcements are not a module you switch on or off, and have no plan of their own.
Sending an announcement
- In the dashboard, open Announcements.
- Choose the Target, a text channel.
- Optional: enter a Title.
- Write the Text (at least 1 character).
- Choose whether the message appears as an embed with a border. Then you can pick the border colour. Otherwise Kage sends plain text.
- Check the Preview and click Send now.
Kage confirms with "Sent to #channel".
Placeholders
In the title and the text, Kage replaces:
| Placeholder | Result |
|---|---|
{guild} | Server name |
{membercount} | approximate member count, a question mark if unknown |
Other placeholders stay exactly as you wrote them. There are no placeholders for individual members, because an announcement is addressed to everyone.
Appearance
| Setting | Result |
|---|---|
| As an embed | Card with title, text and a coloured edge. Without a valid colour, Kage uses the default blue #5865F2. |
| Plain text | The title appears in bold above the text. |
Limits
| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Length of the text in the dashboard | 4000 characters |
| As plain text | at most 2000 characters (Discord's limit) |
| As an embed | at most 4096 characters (Discord's limit) |
If you exceed Discord's limit, Discord rejects the message and the dashboard reports that sending failed.
Recently sent
Under Recently sent, the page shows the latest announcements from the server's log: the channel and the beginning of the title or text. The full text is not stored.
Settings at a glance
Announcements have no stored settings. Every entry applies only to that one send.
Checking the result
- Choose a test channel: Pick a channel where a test message does not disturb.
- Send: Write "Welcome to {guild}, we are {membercount}." and send.
- Check: The channel shows the text with the server name and member count.
Troubleshooting
"Invalid channel"
The channel no longer exists or is not a text channel. Choose another one.
Kage may not write in the channel
Give Kage's role View Channel and Send Messages in the channel. The dashboard reports missing permissions.
"Sending failed"
Usually the text is too long for the chosen format. Shorten it, or send it as an embed.
The colour looks wrong
Enter it as a six-digit hex value, for example #5865F2. Anything else is replaced by Kage with the default blue.
