Member Directory: Members, Roles and Profiles
How Kage's member directory works: search members, assign and remove roles, profile with level, moderation history, staff note and note journal, with limits and troubleshooting.
Last checked for accuracy: 14 October 2026
The member directory (called "Community" in the dashboard) shows your server's members with their roles. You search members, assign or remove roles and open a profile with activity, moderation history and an internal note for the team.
Requirements
- Access: You sign in to the dashboard with Discord and need access to the server. The member list and role assignment require no additional module permission.
- For roles: Kage needs Manage Roles, and the role must sit below Kage's highest role.
- For the staff note: You need access to the Moderation module.
- Plan: The plan notice at the top of this page shows which plan the module needs.
Searching members
Without a search term, the list shows the first 50 members in Discord's order. With a search term, Kage asks Discord for names that start with the term and shows up to 25 results. Each member shows name, join date and roles. On large servers, search is therefore the fastest way to find a specific member.
Assigning and removing roles
- With + you choose a role and assign it to the member.
- With ✕ on a role you remove it.
This only works for roles below Kage's highest role. Otherwise the dashboard says the role is at or above the bot's highest role or that Kage lacks "Manage Roles". Roles managed by an integration cannot be assigned by hand.
Anyone with access to the server may assign roles. There is no finer-grained permission for this.
The profile
Clicking a member opens their profile:
| Area | Content |
|---|---|
| Level and activity | Level, total XP and message count, plus progress to the next level |
| Roles | all roles. They are changed in the member list. |
| Staff note | an internal remark for the team that only staff see. An empty text deletes it. |
| Moderation history | all actions against the member: warning, kick, ban, softban, timeout and its removal, with reason, duration, evidence and moderator |
| Note journal | internal entries that can only be appended, not changed, created with /mod note-add |
The staff note is a single, overwritable summary per member. The note journal is a log with several entries. If a member leaves the server, the profile is no longer reachable ("Member not found"), but the stored data is kept.
About the level: The profile calculates the level with the simple formula 100 × level². If you set a custom level curve in the Rank and XP system, the level in the profile can differ from it. The value Kage shows on the server is authoritative.
Settings at a glance
The member directory has no settings of its own. It displays data and changes roles and notes.
Checking the result
- Search: Enter a name. The member appears.
- Assign a role: Click +, choose a role and check in Discord that it is set.
- Profile: Open the profile and save a staff note. It stays after reloading.
Troubleshooting
"This role cannot be assigned"
The role is at or above Kage's highest role, or Kage lacks Manage Roles. Move Kage's role up in the server settings.
A member does not appear in the list
Without a search term it is only the first 50. Use the search.
"Member not found (may have left the server)"
The profile exists only for members who are still on the server.
The staff note cannot be saved
You lack access to the Moderation module.
