Keyword Alerts: Get Notified About Keywords

How Kage's Keyword Alerts notify a team or role when a keyword appears: matching, channels, cooldown, DM, limits and troubleshooting.

Last checked for accuracy: 14 October 2026

Keyword Alerts notifies your team as soon as a message contains a certain keyword or phrase, for example a product name, a term that signals a dispute, or a help keyword. The message itself stays: unlike the word filter, Kage deletes nothing, it only reports.

For a short walkthrough, see the guide Setting up Keyword Alerts.

Requirements

  • Access to the module: You sign in to the dashboard with Discord and need the Manage Server permission (or access granted for this module).
  • Plan: The plan notice at the top of this page shows which plan the module needs. If the plan lapses, Kage pauses the module until it applies again.
  • Kage's permissions in the alert channel: Send Messages and Embed Links. If a role is to be pinged, it must be set as mentionable in Discord, or Kage needs the Mention @everyone, @here and All Roles permission.
  • For the DM option: The person must be on the server and allow direct messages from server members.

How an alert works

  1. Kage ignores messages from bots and messages without text.
  2. For each entry, Kage checks whether the message was written in the watched channel. If no channel is chosen ("Watch all channels"), the entry applies everywhere.
  3. Then Kage matches the keyword, ignoring upper and lower case:

- Single word: must appear as a whole word. "gvg" triggers on "GvG today?" but not on "gvging" or inside a compound word.
- Phrase with spaces: is searched as a piece of text.

  1. The per-entry cooldown prevents repeats: within the configured minutes (default 30, adjustable from 1 to 1,440), Kage does not report the same keyword again.
  2. Kage posts a "Keyword: …" embed with the message text (up to 1,500 characters), author, channel and a jump link to the message.
  3. Where the embed appears is decided by Alert channel: in a fixed channel or, with no selection, in the channel where the message was posted.
  4. Optionally Kage pings a role and also sends the embed as a direct message to one person.
  5. The hit appears in the module's Logs tab.

Only new messages trigger an alert. Kage does not check edited messages again. The cooldown lives in memory and starts over after a bot restart.

Premium allows up to 50 keywords, Enterprise up to 200. Existing entries above the limit are not trimmed. You find the Discord ID by right-clicking the profile when developer mode is active in Discord. Keyword Alerts has no slash commands.

Checking the result

  1. Create an entry: Create a test entry for a test channel with a short cooldown.
  2. Trigger it: Write a message with the keyword from a second account. The embed appears in the alert channel, and the role is mentioned.
  3. Check the cooldown: A second message within the cooldown time triggers nothing.
  4. Logs tab: The hit is listed there with its time.

Troubleshooting

No alert arrives

Check that "Keyword Alerts enabled" is on, the entry is saved and the plan applies. Check whether the message was posted in the watched channel and whether the keyword appears as a whole word. Messages from bots and edited messages are not evaluated.

The alert comes only once

That is the cooldown. Shorten it for denser reports, or raise it against spam.

The embed appears but the role is not pinged

Check that a role is chosen in the entry. If the role no longer exists, choose it again. If the role is not set as mentionable in Discord, Kage needs the Mention @everyone, @here and All Roles permission. It also needs the permissions to send and embed in the channel.

The DM does not arrive

The person must be on the server and allow direct messages from server members. Otherwise Kage silently skips the DM. The alert in the channel works regardless.

The report appears in the wrong channel

Without a chosen alert channel, Kage posts in the channel where the message was written. Choose a fixed alert channel so that only the team sees it.
