Stats Channel: Show Your Member Count in a Channel Name
How Kage's stats channel shows the member count in a voice channel's name: setup, name template, update interval, Discord's limits and troubleshooting.
Last checked for accuracy: 14 October 2026
A channel such as "👥 Members: 1234" shows at a glance how big your server is. With the stats channel, Kage regularly renames a voice channel so that its name shows the current member count.
For a short walkthrough, see the guide Creating a stats channel.
Requirements
- Access to the module: You sign in to the dashboard with Discord and need the Manage Server permission (or access granted for this module).
- A voice channel: Kage renames an existing channel, it does not create one. Create it in Discord first. The dashboard offers voice and stage channels.
- Kage's permissions in the channel: View Channel and Manage Channels. Without Manage Channels, Kage may not change the name.
- Plan: The plan notice at the top of this page shows which plan the module needs.
Setting up
- In Discord, create a voice channel, for example in a category called "Info". If nobody should join, deny
@everyonethe Connect permission and leave View Channel allowed. - Give Kage View Channel and Manage Channels in this channel.
- In the dashboard, open the Server Stats Channel module and turn on Stats channel active.
- Choose the Voice channel.
- Adjust the Name template. The placeholder
{count}stands for the member count. - Save.
Name template
| Placeholder | Result |
|---|---|
{count} | The server's current member count, as a plain number without thousands separators |
Examples:
| Template | Name at 1234 members |
|---|---|
👥 Members: {count} (default in the English dashboard) | 👥 Members: 1234 |
{count} members | 1234 members |
We are {count}! | We are 1234! |
Important:
- The template must contain
{count}. Otherwise the dashboard rejects it when you save. If you leave the field empty, the dashboard saves the default template. - Do not use any other curly braces. Kage cannot apply a template with other placeholders, and the name then stays unchanged.
- All server members are counted, bots included.
- Discord limits channel names to 100 characters.
How current is the number?
Kage checks every 10 minutes whether the name is still correct and only renames the channel if the name changes. The number can therefore lag behind by up to 10 minutes. That is intentional: Discord only allows about two renames per 10 minutes per channel. Checking more often would run into that limit on active servers.
After you turn the module on, the first name therefore appears after about 10 minutes at most. If you turn the module off, the most recently set name stays in place.
Every rename appears in the module's Logs tab and in Discord's server audit log with the reason "Statistik-Kanal-Update (Kage Bot)".
Settings at a glance
| Dashboard field | Meaning | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Stats channel active | Turns the module on | off |
| Voice channel | The channel that gets renamed | – |
| Name template | Name containing the placeholder {count} | 👥 Members: {count} in the English dashboard, 👥 Mitglieder: {count} in the German one |
There is one stats channel per server. The module has no slash commands.
Checking the result
- Turn on: Choose the channel, save and wait up to 10 minutes.
- Check the name: The channel name shows the current member count.
- Logs: The Logs tab contains the entry "Kanal umbenannt zu …".
Troubleshooting
The name does not change
Wait up to 10 minutes. Then check that the module is enabled and a channel is chosen, that Kage has Manage Channels in this channel, and that the template contains {count}. The dashboard flags missing permissions on the module, and the monitoring reports them in Discord if you want.
The channel was deleted or replaced
Choose the new channel in the dashboard. If the saved channel no longer exists, Kage does nothing.
The number does not jump right away
That is normal, see "How current is the number?". Showing it instantly is not possible because of Discord's limit.
The number is higher than expected
Kage counts all members including bots, the way Discord reports the server's member count.
