Streamer Detection: Announce Live Starts Automatically

How Kage's streamer detection recognizes and announces Twitch and YouTube livestreams of members with a role through Discord: setup, requirements, cooldown and troubleshooting.

Last checked for accuracy: 14 October 2026

The streamer detection announces when a member with a certain role goes live on Twitch or YouTube. You do not enter channel names: Kage reads the "Streaming" indicator that Discord itself shows for connected accounts and posts automatically.

You report new videos and streams on platforms such as Kick through Social Alerts instead.

Requirements

  • Access to the module: You sign in to the dashboard with Discord and need the Manage Server permission (or access granted for this module).
  • A role for the members who should be announced. Kage only watches members with this role.
  • Requirement on the member's side: Each person must have connected their Twitch or YouTube account in their own Discord settings under Connections and turned on "Display current activity as a status message" there. You cannot set this for them as an admin. Without this indicator, Kage sees nothing.
  • Kage's permissions in the announcement channel: View Channel, Send Messages and Embed Links.
  • Plan: The plan notice at the top of this page shows which plan the module needs.

Setting up

  1. In the dashboard, open Streamer Detection and turn on Automatic live detection active.
  2. Choose the Approved role and give it once to each person who should be announced.
  3. Turn Twitch detection active and YouTube detection active on as needed.
  4. Choose the announcement channels for Twitch and YouTube. You can point both to the same channel.
  5. Optional: a role mention, the template and the minimum interval.
  6. Save.

How it works

  1. A member with the approved role goes live. Discord tells Kage about a "Streaming" activity with the link to the stream.
  2. Kage recognizes the platform from the link: twitch.tv for Twitch, youtube.com or youtu.be for YouTube. Kage ignores other platforms.
  3. Kage only announces the transition from offline to live. As long as someone keeps streaming, no second announcement comes.
  4. If the platform is switched off or no channel is chosen for it, nothing happens.
  5. Kage checks the minimum interval per member and platform. If the last announcement was not long enough ago, the announcement is skipped.
  6. Otherwise Kage posts the message with a card: the stream title as a heading with a link, the platform, the category (the game being played, if Discord reports it) and the member's profile picture. The card is purple for Twitch and red for YouTube.

The minimum interval survives a restart of Kage. Which streams are currently running, Kage only remembers in memory: if Kage restarts while someone is streaming, there can be a repeated announcement after the minimum interval has passed.

Message

Default: 🔴 {member} is now live on {platform}! (German dashboard: 🔴 {member} ist jetzt live auf {platform}!). Placeholders:

PlaceholderResult
{member}Mention of the member
{platform}"Twitch" or "YouTube"

If the template contains other curly braces, Kage uses a default text instead ("… is live on …"). With Role mention, Kage additionally pings a role in front of the message.

Announcements appear in the module's Logs tab.

Checking the result

  1. Preparation: A test person with the role connects their Twitch or YouTube account and turns on the activity indicator.
  2. Go live: They start a stream. Shortly afterwards the announcement appears in the chosen channel.
  3. Cooldown: If they end the stream and start a new one right away, the announcement stays away within the minimum interval.

Troubleshooting

No announcement arrives

Check in order:

  • Is the module on, the platform active and a channel chosen for it?
  • Does the member have the approved role?
  • Did they connect Twitch or YouTube in Discord under Connections and turn on the activity indicator? Does Discord show "Streaming …" for the person?
  • Is the last announcement still within the minimum interval?
  • May Kage write and embed links in the channel?

Kick or other platforms are not detected

Detection only works for Twitch and YouTube, because only for those does Discord show a "Streaming" indicator. For Kick use Social Alerts.

New YouTube videos are not reported

The detection only reports livestreams. New videos need an entry in Social Alerts.

A second announcement arrives

Kage restarted in between, or the minimum interval had already passed when the stream started again.
