Suggestions: Collect Feedback, Vote and Set a Status

How Kage's suggestion system works: members submit ideas by command, the bot posts them with voting reactions, and the team sets the status – with settings and troubleshooting.

Last checked for accuracy: 14 October 2026

With the suggestion system, members collect ideas and feedback in one place. Whoever submits a suggestion sees it as an embed in the suggestions channel, and everyone can vote for or against with reactions. Your team later sets the status: open, in progress, accepted or rejected.

For a short walkthrough, see the guide Setting up suggestions.

Requirements

  • Access to the module: You sign in to the dashboard with Discord and need the Manage Server permission (or access granted for this module).
  • A suggestions channel: Kage needs Send Messages, Embed Links and Add Reactions there.
  • To change the status: Whoever sets the status needs the Manage Messages permission. Kage must be allowed to edit its own message.

Commands

CommandWhoEffect
/suggestion (German /vorschlag)all membersSubmits a suggestion with free text.
/suggestion-status (German /vorschlag-status)members with Manage MessagesSets the status of a suggestion.

Submitting a suggestion

  1. The member runs /suggestion with their text.
  2. Kage checks whether the system is active and a channel is chosen. Otherwise a message appears that the system is not set up.
  3. Kage posts an embed in the suggestions channel with the text, the sender's name and avatar, and the status Open.
  4. Kage adds the two voting reactions (default 👍 and 👎).
  5. The member receives a private link to the suggestion.

A vote is nothing more than a reaction. Kage does not count or evaluate them; you see the number of reactions directly on the message.

Setting the status

/suggestion-status takes the suggestion's message ID and the new status. You copy the ID in Discord via the message's context menu (developer mode) or read it from the link the member received on submitting.

StatusEmbed color
Open (reset)Blue
In progressYellow
AcceptedGreen
RejectedRed

Kage changes the color and the status field of the embed and notes in the footer who set the status. The status exists only in the embed itself; there is no separate list. You can change the status again at any time. The command works only for messages that Kage itself posted as a suggestion and that are in the configured suggestions channel.

Only standard emojis (Unicode) are allowed as voting emojis, no custom server emojis.

Checking the result

  1. Submit: Run /suggestion with a test text. The embed appears with the two reactions.
  2. Status: Copy the message ID and set the status to "Accepted" with /suggestion-status. The color changes to green.
  3. Logs tab: Submitted suggestions and status changes are noted there.

Troubleshooting

Kage reports that the suggestion system is not set up

"/suggestion active" is off, or no channel is chosen and saved.

Kage reports that the suggestions channel no longer exists

The chosen channel was deleted. Choose a new one in the dashboard.

Kage lacks a permission

It needs Send Messages, Embed Links and Add Reactions in the channel. If any is missing, Kage reports it on submitting.

The status cannot be changed

The message ID is wrong, the message is not in the suggestions channel or is not from Kage, or you lack Manage Messages. Kage then reports that the suggestion was not found or that the message is not a suggestion from it.

The voting emojis are missing

Kage cannot attach an emoji that is not a valid standard emoji. Choose a Unicode emoji in the dashboard.
