Polls: Discord Polls by Command, Dashboard and Schedule
How Kage creates Discord polls: the /poll command, polls from the dashboard, recurring templates with weekday and time, results and troubleshooting.
Last checked for accuracy: 14 October 2026
For polls, Kage uses Discord's own poll feature. Discord counts the votes, shows them and ends the poll reliably by itself. Kage creates them conveniently by command or from the dashboard, keeps a history, and can post polls again on a schedule, for example every Monday at 18:00.
For a short walkthrough, see the guide Creating polls.
Requirements
- Kage's permissions in the channel: Send Messages and Create Polls. If something is missing, Kage reports that it may not post a poll in that channel.
- Dashboard: You sign in with Discord and need Manage Server (or access granted for this module).
- For the role ping in the dashboard: The role must be mentionable, or Kage needs the Mention @everyone, @here and All Roles permission.
Poll by command
Any member can use the /poll command (German /umfrage). The poll appears in the channel where you run the command.
| Parameter | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Question | The poll's question |
| Option 1, Option 2 | Required answers |
| Option 3, Option 4 | Optional answers |
| Multiple | Whether several answers may be chosen at once (default no) |
| Duration in hours | 1 to 168 hours, default 24 |
By command, 2 to 4 answers are possible. You only get a short confirmation. The poll itself is public in the channel.
Poll from the dashboard
In the dashboard under Polls, you have more options:
- Up to 10 answers (Discord's upper limit).
- Duration of up to 768 hours (32 days).
- Channel freely selectable.
- Notify role (optional): Kage pings the role together with the poll.
- Allow multiple choice.
With Create & send poll, Kage posts the poll immediately. A note from Discord: polls are not anonymous (voters are visible in the client) and cannot be restricted to specific roles. The role notification only pings; it does not exclude anyone from voting.
Recurring templates
Instead of sending once, you save the poll as a template:
- Choose Save as template (recurring) and give it a name.
- Choose at least one weekday and a time (format HH:MM). The time zone is Europe/Berlin by default.
- Save. Kage then posts the poll automatically again at the chosen time on each selected weekday.
Important about the flow:
- Kage checks every minute whether a template is due. It is posted within a 5-minute window from the chosen time.
- Per template there is at most one post per day (by the template's time zone). If posting fails, Kage tries again within the window.
- You can switch templates on and off, send them immediately with Post now, and delete them. Up to 20 templates per server are possible.
- Automatic posts only run while "Polls module active" is switched on.
History and results
The dashboard keeps a history of the last 50 polls, whether they came from the command, the dashboard or a template. Kage fetches the results fresh from Discord. If the message was deleted, it says the poll was no longer found. The history shows whether it has ended.
Settings at a glance
| Dashboard field | Meaning | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Polls module active | Controls visibility in the dashboard and the automatic templates | off |
| Question / Answers | Content of the poll | – |
| Duration (hours) | 1 to 768 | 24 |
| Notify role | optional ping | none |
| Allow multiple choice | Several answers per person | off |
| Template: name, weekdays, time, time zone | recurring schedule | – |
The switch does not affect the command: polls already sent keep running on Discord regardless.
Checking the result
- Test: Create a poll with
/polland check how it displays in the channel. - Dashboard: The poll is in the history; Results shows the votes.
- Template: Create a template for the next few minutes and check whether Kage posts it. The Logs tab names automatic posts.
Troubleshooting
The command reports missing permissions
Kage may not create polls in the channel. Grant Send Messages and Create Polls in the channel.
The template is not posted
Check that the module is active and the template is switched on, that weekday and time match the chosen time zone, and that Kage may post in the channel. Templates already posted today do not come again the same day.
The role ping is missing
The role is not mentionable, and Kage lacks the Mention @everyone, @here and All Roles permission.
The results cannot be loaded
The poll message was deleted or no longer contains a poll. Kage does not count votes itself; they are held exclusively by Discord.
A poll should apply to one role only
Discord does not allow that. As an alternative, put the poll in a channel that only this role can see.
